100% Independent & Unbiased

About TLDRadar

Real-time domain registrar price comparison, discount coupon indexing, and authoritative RDAP availability engine.

Our Mission: Radical Pricing Transparency

The global domain name industry registers over 350 million active domains annually, generating billions of dollars in recurring fees. Yet, for the average developer, startup founder, or small business owner, domain pricing remains deliberately opaque.

Legacy domain registrars frequently deploy deceptive marketing practices: discounting first-year registrations to $0.99 while silently locking customers into auto-renewals at $25 to $45/year, charging extra for mandatory WHOIS privacy protection, and burying ICANN surcharges in complex checkout flows.

TLDRadar was engineered to solve this problem. We provide real-time, unbiased pricing intelligence across 50+ ICANN-accredited registrars, unmasking hidden renewal spikes, verifying discount promo codes, and calculating true Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) over 1 to 10-year lifecycles.

How Our Technology Engine Works

Unlike affiliate-driven review sites that rely on static sponsored spreadsheets or outdated monthly data dumps, TLDRadar operates an autonomous real-time scraping and telemetry pipeline:

  • Live TLS-Fingerprinted Web Scraping: Our backend engine uses modern curl_cffi sessions impersonating Chrome TLS fingerprints to query public registrar comparison feeds (including tld-list.com) without getting blocked by anti-bot challenge walls.
  • Authoritative RDAP Registry Resolution: We bypass third-party rate-limited WHOIS servers and query official IANA bootstrap registry endpoints directly using the IETF Registration Data Access Protocol (RFC 7480 / RFC 9083). If a registry returns HTTP 404, the domain is conclusively free to register.
  • Active Coupon Verification: We continuously parse and structure discount promo codes (such as Spaceship's COM67 or Namecheap's 99SPECIAL) to ensure buyers never overpay at checkout.
  • Multi-Year Holding Cost Modeling: We combine introductory promotional rates with recurring renewal fees to provide mathematically accurate 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year total cost comparisons.

Our Independence & Editorial Pledge

Zero Sponsored Placement Manipulation

TLDRadar rankings are strictly algorithmic. Registrars are sorted purely by lowest mathematical price (registration, renewal, or transfer). No registrar can pay to be featured as "cheapest" or to alter our live comparison data.

Domain Industry Glossary

New to domain purchasing? Here are the essential terms you need to know:

  • ICANN: The non-profit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers that oversees the global Domain Name System. Charges a flat $0.20/yr fee per generic domain.
  • Registry Operator: The wholesale organization managing a top-level domain (e.g. Verisign for .COM, Identity Digital for .IO). Sets the wholesale floor price.
  • Registrar: The retail company (e.g. Spaceship, Porkbun, Sav, Namecheap) authorized by ICANN to sell domain names to the public.
  • RDAP: Registration Data Access Protocol — the secure, RESTful JSON successor to legacy Port 43 WHOIS for checking domain registration status.
  • EPP / Auth Code: The unique alphanumeric security key required to authorize transferring a domain between registrars.
  • WHOIS Privacy: A proxy service that conceals your personal name, physical address, and phone number from public registries.
